12-2-09: Courtesy of WIVB. New York State goes from drowning in debt to gasping for air. The budget vote breathes some life into a desperate financial situation. Erie County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz said, “We’re fine for 2009. I’m not worried about the remainder of this month, but I am worried starting in the middle of January through February. If they stop payment to local governments we could have problems.” The governor had wanted a 4.5 percent mid-year cut in school aid, which didn’t happen.

Will a Debt Management Plan Mean Ill Fail a Tenants Check?
Question by : Will a Debt Management Plan mean ill fail a tenants check?
I am currently on a Debt Management Plan and have been since April 2011 follow a break up of my relationship.
My questions relates to Tenant checks which an estate agent will carry out as I am looking to move home within the next 2 months, and as I hope to move through an agent, I will be subject to these checks.
Im quite worried that by being a a DMP it could affect my chances of passing the tenant checks. I will add ive been with my current landlord for nearly 4 years (again through an agent) have never missed a rent payment (i usually pay early) and I could supply proof of such if asked.
Hoping to hear from tenants who have been in same position as me or with landlords/estate agents.
Thank you

You certainly won’t fail automatically, although it won’t help. Given your excellent payment record with your current landlord, you should be OK if you can demonstrate that you will continue to be able to pay.
